It merely dissolves gunk, cleans the filter and (maybe) prepares the surfaces for the cycling bacteria. It may, in fact, inhibit the cycle. It does not work the same as Safestart, which does have the right bacteria. WebIt takes a minimum of about four weeks. Less than a gallon tank is too small to have a working nitrogen cycle. So I don't think adding decor from it will help much. If you want to boost the cycling process you could maybe try bottled bacteria. But the best way is to let the tank naturally cycle.
