WebAug 23, 2011 · I have solaris, linux, aix and hpux machines and on all of these machines the /etc/shells file is missing. Unless you plan to restrict shells using /etc/shells file, you can ignore the missing /etc/shells. Solaris 10, hpux by default don't have the file.
